Life is too important to be taken seriously.

So on Saturday (after the very emo Friday thanks to the girls of 2E) we did a show! For this rich kid dude's birthday. The show was ok, though I felt  I could've done alot better preparation on my part but oh well I think in general it was an ok show. (Might be able to get some pictures of the show from Qing Wen soon!)

So anyway, after the show, at Sunset Drive, which already sounds cool like a beachside place in California, we were literally stuck in private housing a.k.a rich kid area trekking our way out. When we saw one of those minimalls with Cold Storage (and a wine cafe and 5 shops) cos they all think they're too atas for NTUC (lol).

There was an indie ice cream place called The Daily Scoop!

It's got ice cream and a cool name and pretty good signage, so I just HAD to go have some. It was a real clean humble place, the way new startup eateries/cafes tend to be, with a few choice pieces of deco.

So JJ and me excitedly made our way to the ice cream counter and asked the very nice dude if we could try some flavours. Than we realised outside of Vanilla, Chocolate, they had very funky flavours like Jaffa Chocolate, Chendol, Coconut, um.. and a bunch of other unusual but (luckily) not weird flavours.

Being in a place we have never been to and will probably never come here much again, I told the dude I'll be trying out most everything which he was ok with. Seeing Durian, I asked to try that which he said:

"Durian is very overpowering flavour. Would you like to try some other flavours before Durian?"
To which mentally my jaw dropped. I mean outside I was cool and "Oh yeah.. you're right..ok sure" but inside I was so super impressed! Firstly, he REALLY cares about us having a good experience at his cafe, and he REALLY knows some stuff about his ice cream. So that was really cool service.

We proceeded to shamelessly try something like 8 flavours (>.<) each before I asked the dude.

Mr. Ong: So which one's your favourite?
Ice Cream Dude: (not answering the question) The most popular flavours are -something- and Lychee.

*Mr. Ong and JJ look frantically around for Lychee
Mr. Ong and JJ: But where's Lychee?
Ice Cream Dude: (with the most normal face) It's not on display.
Mr. Ong: What.. you mean it's sold out?
Ice Cream Dude: No it's just not on display.

*Mr. Ong and JJ look at each other like they're about to find a new cure for morning sinus
Mr. Ong: So.. can we.. try it?

*Ice cream dude bends down and starts digging into their super secret shelf of ice cream flavours too good for display and comes up with 2  bits of white (almost dope looking) cream on ice cream sticks.

*Mr. Ong and JJ take the sticks and give each other "that's what's up" nods of the head and try the ice cream. Which was really pretty good.

JJ finally chose their Durian which really had a very thick flavour. And I got Chendol (complete with red beans and green squiggly jelly) on a waffle which was really good.

JJ and QW. JJ looks like he doesn't like his ice cream but he's just camera shy. Yeah right.

Cool Art on the wall. Check the Oscar Wilde quote on bottom right!

So yeah that was really the nicest ice cream place I've been to. I belief there are a few places like these around Singapore but i don't know where they are. Would be cool to get a chance to go some time! The very nice lady at the counter!

  1. You forgot the part that the guy kindly and awesomely requests that we put the Cold Storage apple juice out of sight.

  2. Oh Yeah! I forgot what he said exactly but if anyone of you who read this work in a cafe or any eatery that doesn't allow outside food to be consumed on your turf, the ice cream shop dude came up to us SMILING and said something like

"excuse me can i have a very simple request, that you not consume your apple juice here"

I thought it was a very polite and nice way of saying it, and we were all happy to help him out.
