Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

Too damn nonsensical for me to not like.

Work leaves no time at all. Will be back when I get a break. Till then embedding videos is a much easier/lazy approach. Hope the movie turns out good!

Saturday.

[10:05 a.m.] I'm waiting for the bus. Late for work again cursing my inability to be on time for anything. I see a girl I know works at Royal Sporting House Suntec City trying to hail a cab. I ask if she wants to share. We make small talk and hop into a Merc.
[11:10 a.m.] I'm going down Takashimaya's staff entrance with the lady that takes care of the Winx merchandise opposite my booth. We laugh at each other for being late and punch our timecards in.
[05:32 p.m.] I attend to one last customer before what will be my first and only break. 1 becomes 3. I meet K-Boy and Lionel for lunch. At $5.80, baked rice was good. Boss and Nurali drop by to support. I really appreciate it.
[06:45 p.m.] There's a kid behind me going "Excuse me" 43 times over. He thinks that phrase gets him free atention. I'm holding a thin right hand that belongs to a girl called Rachel. I tell her to let go of the yoyo, and when it reaches the bottom I pull her hand up and help her catch the yoyo. I give her a Hi-5. Another parent wants me to help. I sense it. We do it a few more times before I tell her to practice it for abit. I look up, another girl needs her string cut, her sister and the boy too young for yoyos beside her too. I end up holding all their hands. The kid's still going "Excuse me", this time tapping my shoulder at the same time. I wonder who/where are the parents. I duck behind, gulp some water, shout to the growing crowd that the show is going to start in about 15 minutes. The music doesn't go on for 25. I tell "Excuse me" to practice.
[07:10 p.m.] K-Boy is on stage rockin it. He's tired. I feel it. His fatigue and my own. A punk cover of "Somewhere over the rainbow" blasts from the speakers. It's essentially the 5th show of the day, the crowd is ok. Could be better. My voice is going and I'm running out of shit to say fast. I tell myself I'm repeating the same few phrases. The applause is dying but the crowd is growing. I run the same game, say the same lines, and try and make it sound like it's the first time I'm doing it. I'm putting all I have into the voice but it's losing it's power. I wonder why. A grand total of 14 people are clapping. My mucus is building up in my nostrils. I look into the crowd to see a girl waving. She's from Ireland.
[07:30 p.m.] The show is over but the toughest part lies in managing the 47 kids and parents running at us with new yoyos demanding some kind of instruction or divine intervention, all at the same time. 16 hands later, "Excuse me" is bothering me with another trick. The yoyo he's using sucks. Matter fact most the yoyos I'm asking them to get sits right next to absolute garbage. I tell him to practice. There's a throbbing pain in my feet and my eyes are dry. Some random boy comes up with a heavier accent then me demanding me to give him a yoyo. I start coughing up phlegm. I've ran out of patience & energy 18 minutes ago. His name is John. My mucus is threatening to reveal itself to the rest of the world. I smile at a pretty lady with a baby.
[10:00 p.m.] I stumble out from the staff entrance onto the bustling Orchard Road overwhelmed by all its Saturday Night Craziness. Girls dressed to kill, with whatever they can afford. Directly contrasting my hunched back and heavy step. I can't help but feel I'm missing out on the party.
[02:00 a.m.] I wrap this post up and stumble into bed, only to do it all over again tomorrow.

[02:03 a.m.] I look at one of the pictures I took of the kids. I remind myself that these genuine smiles make it all worthwhile.

The Importance of Rhythm

Just reminding myself.
How the big jump lets you catch your breath. Before going fast again.
How silence is as important as the notes in music.
How white space is as important as your technicolour boogie.
How long bus rides are as important as your most productive hours.

Random Pickups!

Raglan from Fourskin cos the red fade looks sweet & the material makes me want to sleep in it on rainy nights.
Raider Ex-es! To get my double hand game back up after returning the super awesome "5th in Singapore", "Twin Swords of the Double A Gods" to Jael.

I find it amusing how everytime I'm able to amass a small sum of money I get this urge to race back to being broke again. Maybe it's my inner urge to like go back and teach >.<

Ice Cream Gallery @ East Wood Road

Few weeks back the Lady Companion and me felt like some good ice cream. So while she got ready, I trawled the internet and found that Ice Cream Gallery hidden in a quiet estate of private houses just 15min away.

We were actually a little let down when we found that it was just a mini shop. But after a while, I kinda liked the old school lighting and how it feels like a hideout for lovers.
Kids 'r' Cool 'n' You Know It. Random cheaplang yoyo sighting @ the nearby Cold Storage.

Serving just straight ice cream, their flavours included Blueberry Cheesecake (which the Lady Companion did enjoy), Gula Melaka (Brown Sugar used in Chendol? ARE YOU SERIOUS?~!) and the ever Best Selling Durian. Lady Companion doesn't like Durian so I tried the REALLY VERY FUNKY tasting Coconut. That's the only way I could ever describe it. I was SOO close to getting the Gula Melaka cos I'm quite a fan of anything with that though. Still the coconut was good!

Whee! It's really a small intimate operation. Has the family business vibe we don't see much of anymore. And it's always cool when the guys are nice enough to let you try something like 400 flavours and wait for your fickle brain to choose among them.

Trying To Save The World: Jonathan

Jonathan and I have been Best Friends for 3 years. That's what I tell anyone who asked how we got to know each other even though we really only met at and for work at the Water Week.

Jonathan is perplexing because I've never met anything like him. Not that he is super cool or lives in a cave or anything like that. He just seemed like the perfect sidekick, wingman, partner in crime for all the at work ridiculousness like when we're supposed to be all serious and pleasant inviting people but we just totally goof around the whole time we're there.

While Jon goes back to his freaking DSLR, Uni life and his girlfriend, I'm just saying we could use more people who are comfortable in their own skin, secure enough to laugh at themselves, and know flickr is pronounced flicker and not flick-ARE, and be smart enough to not take drugs/painkillers and overdose they ass to hell.

Dash Snow Died.

No one knows him. That's ok. He never needed that. The world has lost the most brutally nonchalant of honest artists, a free spirited anarchist who never cared what we called him anyway. In an age chained together by money, fame and overdressed mediocrity,
I am backblogged by weeks.
And?
“When it comes down to it,” says McGinley, “Dash is wild, a wild kid. I have my moments. But for me, it’s always sort of about creating a fantasy. It’s like the life I wish that I was living. For Dash, it’s really the life.”
"That magic flash of insanity, framed and for sale."

We seem to be losing alot of Brilliant Souls recently.

Childhood Dreamz~

Holy Shit Cool!

The full zipup hoodie has been around overpriced streetwear pseudo design circles that's been coming up with ridiculous after ridiculously stupid designs with it, we could make a full zip up hoodie zoo.

This one's the first one I think is cool if not at least its funny. I hear its from another lame overpriced HK label though?

Roy & JD Hooked up!

I personally really really like the wedding photos. Never see them looking so good before >.<>
A while back Roy asked if I'd perform at his wedding if there was no pay. Which to me was the most silly question cos I would pay to perform at his wedding. I am so honoured he even thought of me (and Andrew and Hans) it's kinda crazy.

On a sidenote the white tuxedo seems to be gaining popularity among bridegrooms. Which is cool really. Think it looks cleaner and brighter. I think I wanna get married just so I can wear a white tux and take nice pictures.

Plus Colin's going to be best man at the wedding. SEE to the RAZY.

To Break A World Record: Day 1

They're going to hold a Record Setting session on Sunday morning. This is a trick we call a Suicide, which is one of my favourite tricks.

I hold the National Record for consecutively catching that 22 times. The World Record tracked by the AYYA by the German dude sits at a whooping 42.

Having not practiced consecutively catching suicides in probably 3 or 4 years I am Super Rusty. Still, I um.. kinda decided a few hours ago to give the World Record a shot.

Day 1 training was not too encouraging. The yoyo I'm using currently doesn't spin long enough to hit even 35. So I decided to bust out the old (equally rusty) Minimotu, cleaned it up, and it seems to be doing pretty well except I wish it had a bigger gap so the string wouldn't keep slipping out.

Technique wise, Im probably going with slow and steady catching one at a time. The rush technique is waaay too dangerous. Still the rust is showing. I rarely even hit above 30 concesutives. Only managed to go above 42 twice. A 49 and 43.

More training tomorrow's aim is to hit 42 catches 10 times. Only 3 more days to practice Hah. And I dont even know if this event is recognised by the very picky AYYA.

Camwhoring: Counting with Shermaine

I think it was a reaction to us just sitting on the sofa where the camwhores usually sit on. Or something. SHERMAINE STARTED IT. Then Ken then me :/ good for laughs.

9 is just too....

All you cool manly guys are missing out on the fun! And ridiculousness that comes with it.

and we're on...LIVE!

Website just went up www.superyoyo.com.sg actually yesterday. Lots of things I can't talk about cos it still is work but oh well. Did what they wanted, and the damn thing works.

And if everything falls in place, I'll be updating and maintaining the website, which calls for "Teaching Myself Dreamweaver CS3 In 24 Hours" and what might possibly be the book they wrote just for me. All courtesy of the severely overlooked National Libraries. Still a very good resource after all these years.

Only 23 more hours to go!

It's Michael Jackson Night on Channel 5

Go catch it quick!
One whole night for one amazing dude.
Unprecedented.

It Might Get Loud

MUST MUST MUST MUST Watch. I hope it makes it over to Singapore!

From the description:
"The history of the electric guitar as seen from the point of view of three significant musicians: Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, U2's The Edge and the White Stripes' Jack White. It tells the personal stories, of three generations of electric guitar virtuosos. It reveals how each developed his unique sound and style of playing his favorite instrument. Concentrating on the artists musical rebellion, traveling with him to influential locations and provoking rare discussion as to how and why he writes and plays."

There've been so many commercial documentaries that try to showcase, a certain sub-culture (be it sneakers, hackers, corporate investing) but tend to just gloss over and miss so many nuances and many times the main essence of the culture and the driving forces behind them. This one seems like it might finally get it. I hope it does. Really.

Thanks Hans for the all important Heads Up!

Don't Let Them Say You Ain't Beautiful

Eminem drops his new steez. I mean single. Lyrically not his best. Still just cool for the rainy Sundays (now) or the reflective long walks home.

Singapore International Water Week Pt. 2

Arrgh! Finally some free time to post this. Us getting ready for lunch. Theirs, not ours.

This is the very fun Jonathan and "I don't fit in NTU" Daphne copying what one lady manager keeps saying with the shrillest of voices.

This is Lunch.

Alex has a sexy voice and a fractured wrist and is waaaay to analytical for his age. I think that's Jasper.

Million Dollar Dealtime.

This is the Pimp shizzle. I mean lecture hall.

The people there to listen get paper pen, wine glass, Mentos (I stole one HAHA), jug of water.

Everyone of them.

Alex + "Triple Pirouette" Magdalene + Jasper + Ken + Sherms

Jonathan trying to start conversation with moving targets. I really don't know alot of their names.

I think this is the first time i took out the camera in the boardroom. I said 1, 2, 3, Blogspot!

Teet! (okok not cute I know)

When Jon and I are ultra bored we play CheeeKoohPahk! (That Scissors Paper Stone Double hand game where you're supposed to make your hands match your opponent's) Race to 11 and the loser must eat a ridiculous amount of pasta at the buffet lunch.
I was destroyed 11-5 but later Jon dared me to nullify the forfeit by convincing a random female co-worker we don't know to play 1 round of CheeeKoohPahk! with me.

So if you know a Marie Tay from like Singapore Poly's Enviromental Course help me send her a massive shoutout for bothering to learn the game(cos she has no childhood) and then playing with me (saving me from lunch's sometimes horrible pasta). Like 4 rounds LOL. Fun times.

I know I felt quite shitty when it ended cos like I won't get to work with these people again.
