Why You Should Go Practice for Asia Pacific 2010
While he said that to me, I'm sure the reigning Champion will say that to the rest of you too. I really think there's a lot of talent in Singapore's younger 1A players and I think it's time you all stepped up.
I really want to practice, but I'm really not sure I'll join this year. I really want to do a good job emceeing for you guys.
Qualifying though not easy is very possible. So practice, push hard for your first Asia Finals, represent your country and show him what you we can do.
A Polka Dotted Window and a Purple Thong
Went for Singapore's second TEDx event which happened to be held in my campus. Never seen our lecture hall so full of people before. While obviously not as brilliant as the main event, it still was quite interesting and makes me feel like I need to stop slacking and do something.
Best speech that day by Alison Lester about not thinking out of the box but instead, looking inside your own box of experiences and knowledge to come up with something creative. She also showed us a hilarious creative exercise.
-Get a partner, both of you list 6 completely unrelated, random objects. Don't tell each other the items.
-Partner tells you his 1st item and you start a story with that.
-When you're ready, signal him for the second item and LINK that same story with the new 2nd item, repeat through all items and end story.
-Get partner to make up story with your 6 items.
-It helps if the items are funny/weird. (She used a Polka Dotted Window/Purple Thong)
I really hope to try it out some time with students if I get the chance.

Funky Kung-Fu
So for a while now I've been entertaining the idea of taking some kind of dance class to improve my posture on stage etc. So when a friend asked me to join a flash mob where we have to do a hip hop dance routine, I told myself "at least it'll be funny".
What was supposed to be a 45 sec routine turned out to be 2 mins long and much harder then I thought. As we were going through though this one girl smiled at me from the other side of the room and I thought she was checking me out.
So I thought I looked good until the end of the lesson when she came and called me "CHER!" before I realised one of my students actually has been witnessing what could be some of the most unglamourous moments of my life.
:/
H has always been a good dancer since when I taught her and its great to see her pursuing her passion. She ended up giving me remedials after class on how I can look more like a dancer and less like a clown.

Alexander Fuckin' McQueen
I never knew the dude, never even really knew his work that well outside of the odd collaboration with Puma (which by the way has always been pretty good). But you know, it's hard to not acknowledge his brilliance when everyone I respect has lots of respect for the dude. For people like this, like Miles Davis and Jeff Koons, I always thought that maybe in time when my taste matures I'll be able to understand their brilliance.
But I guess I'm slightly too late on this one
:(
